1 Onward, in majesty, forward, in glory the Savior goes,
Leading the nations from darkness, defeating his many foes;
Follow him, comrades, and love and obey him from day to day,
Spreading the light and proclaiming salvation along the way.

Refrain:
He is the Lord of the nations,
Truly the King of kings,
Ever his praise is resounding,
Over the world it rings.
Praise him, ye people, who love him,
Song after song outpour;
Praise the Redeemer, our glorious Savior,
For evermore.

2 Onward he marches, the Hero of ages, the King of love,
Offering sinners a share of his wonderful throne above;
Follow him, singing his praises with gladness, ye soldiers true,
With the assurance that he will defend us and strength renew. [Refrain]

3 After the battle we all shall behold him in realms on high,
Praise and adore him while ages of gladness and peace go by;
There by the river of life we shall see him and hear his voice,

Pseudonym: James S. Apple. James Rowe was born in England in 1865. He served four years in the Government Survey Office, Dublin Ireland as a young man. He came to America in 1890 where he worked for ten years for the New York Central & Hudson R.R. Co., then served for twelve years as superintendent of the Mohawk and Hudson River Humane Society. He began writing songs and hymns about 1896 and was a prolific writer of gospel verse with more than 9,000 published hymns, poems, recitations, and other works.
