Onward Up the Highway

Representative Text

1 Onward up the highway,
To the promised land,
Moves the gospel army,
Jesus in command;
See the host advancing,
On to victory!
Marching up to Canaan,
From captivity.

Refrain:
Onward! as we journey let us sing
Glory, hallelujah to the King!
Onward up the highway,
Let our voices ring.

2 Onward up the highway,
Vanquishing the foe,
Following the Savior,
Shouting as we go.
Full and free salvation
Life forevermore;
Marching to the homeland
On the other shore. [Refrain]

3 Onward up the highway,
See the eastern sky,
Radiant with sunshine—
Morning draweth nigh.
Soon the gates will open,
Angel hosts appear;
Onward Christian soldier,
Victory is near! [Refrain]
