Opløft dit syn, o kristen sjæl

Representative Text

1 Opløft dit Syn, o kristen Sjæl!
Det dugger over Dal og Field,
Det vaares allevegne!
Gud har sin milde Haand oplukt,
Den gode Sæd har baaret Frugt
I fjerne Verdens Egne!
Lover Herren!
Sjæle bundne,
Nu gjenfundne,
Frelste føres,
Glædesang i Himlen høres.

2 Som Regn og Sne fra Himlens Sky,
De vande Jorden, gjør den ny,
At Grøden stander fager,
Aaa vender, siger Gud, mit Ord
Tilbage ikke tomt fra Jord,
Men gjør, hvad mig behager,
Lover Herren!
Ordet sandes,
Ørken vandes,
Grøden trives,
Og nyt Liv de Døde gives.

3 Den gode Hyrde, se han gaar,
Indtil han fundet har sit Faar,
Og Glædes Taarer rinde;
O, lad os flittig gaa med ham,
Og lokke paa de kjære Lam,
Som løbe om i Blinde!
Lover Herren!
Løfter Raabet
Glad i Haabet,
Troesstærke!
Det er Herrens Haand, vi merke.

4 Velkomme alle fjern og nær
Til Herrens Søskend-Samfund her,
Som har i Himlen hjemme!
Gud signe eder, gjøre stærk,
Og han, som har begyndt sit Værk,
Til Kristi Dag det fremme!
Lover Herren
Langt om Lande,
I, som stande
Tungt i Striden,
Saa med Graad og glædes siden!

Landstad lived with his father Hans Landstad (1771–1838) who was also a minister, first in 1806 to Øksnes, to Vinje in 1811 and to Seljord in 1819. He took a theological degree (cand. theol) in 1827, and worked after that as the resident chaplain in Gausdal for six years. After that he worked in different parishes in Telemark, Østfold befo… Go to person page >

WIE SCHÖN LEUCHTET

Adapting a tune written for Psalm 100 found in Wolff Köphel's Psalter (1538), Nicolai composed WIE SCHÖN LEUCHTET, which was published with the text in 1599.
