Representative Text

1 Pass on the sunshine that has chang’d you today,
Make others happy as you go on your way,
Some one is needing just the joy you can give,
Lifting a burden is the true way to live.

Chorus:
Love is the sunshine, beautiful sunshine,
Warming the frozen heart,
Bringing to life new gladness;
Love is the sunshine, heavenly sunshine,
A light brightly gleaming
That leads unto Him.

2 Pass on the sunshine, smile will answer to smile,
Souls sad and weary from their troubles beguile,
God’s love ne’er faileth, it is rich, full and free
Give to His bounty ev’rywhere you may be. [Chorus]

3 Pass on the sunshine little words full of grace,
Drive out the shadows, leaving joy in their place,
Send gleams of love-light all the wide world around,
Faithful to Jesus may your whole life be found. [Chorus]

Lizzie De Armond was a prolific writer of children's hymns, recitations and exercises. When she was twelve years old her first poem was published in the Germantown, Pa. Telegraph, however, it was not until she was a widow with eight children to support that she started writing in earnest. She wrote articles, librettos, nature stories and other works, as well as hymns.
