Passing through the King's highway

Representative Text

1 Ringing thro' the sunlight clear and strong,
Echoing the choral, love's sweet song,
Cheerily the children march along,
Passing thro' the King's highway.
Gaily tinted blossoms kiss our feet,
Ev'rything rejoices, life is sweet,
Joyfully we haste our Lord to greet,
Hallelujah! praise his name!

Chorus:
Waving high our banner glad and free,
Shouting loud our watchword "Liberty!"
Children of the Kingdom, heirs are we,
Passing thro' the King's highway.

2 Bringing happy tho'ts to crown this day,
Following his footsteps all the way,
Loyally our Master we obey,
Heaven's light above us shines.
Merry birds are singing tuneful lays,
Chiming bells are ringing songs of praise,
Swell the chorus, notes exultant raise,
Glory to his blessed name! [Chorus]

3 Scattering the sunbeams far and near,
Joining heart and hands for Christ so dear,
Echoing the songs of glad good cheer,
Precious gifts to him we bring.
Gratefully we own our Father's care,
Filling earth with brightness ev'rywhere,
In his loving kindness we should share;
Glory be to God on high! [Chorus]

Author: Lizzie DeArmond

Lizzie De Armond was a prolific writer of children's hymns, recitations and exercises. When she was twelve years old her first poem was published in the Germantown, Pa. Telegraph, however, it was not until she was a widow with eight children to support that she started writing in earnest. She wrote articles, librettos, nature stories and other works, as well as hymns.
