Representative Text

1 Sing, ev’ry heart, glad praise to God on high;
Let joyous anthems cleave the arching sky;
All thro’ the days so full of joy and light;
Worship the King who reigns in heaven’s height.

Refrain:
Praise him with songs of rejoicing,
Praise him, the Father above,
Joining with earth’s happy voices,
Praising the God of our love.

2 Sing, ev’ry heart, in one unbroken strain;
Send forth the song o’er mountain, hill and plain;
Bring to the Lord the glory due his name,
Let all the earth his majesty proclaim. [Refrain]

3 Sing, ev’ry heart, this happy Sabbath day,
Praise and adore his holy name alway;
Let all unite their tribute glad to bring,
To him be glory evermore, our King. [Refrain]

Lizzie De Armond was a prolific writer of children's hymns, recitations and exercises. When she was twelve years old her first poem was published in the Germantown, Pa. Telegraph, however, it was not until she was a widow with eight children to support that she started writing in earnest. She wrote articles, librettos, nature stories and other works, as well as hymns.
