Be strong to do right

Representative Text

1 So many temptations around us are spread,
That we must keep watching while onward we tread,
We’ll try to remember while hard is the fight,
When evil assails us, be strong to do right.

Refrain:
Be strong to do right,
Be brave in the fight,
When tempted to evil,
Be strong to do right.

2 God looks from His heaven to comfort and cheer,
O let us take courage when He is so near,
His strength He will give us by day and by night,
When evil assails us, be strong to do right. [Refrain]

3 In life’s happy morning there’s work to be done,
No time to be idle, He counts on each one,
With loyal endeavor we’ll go in His might,
When evil assails us, be strong to do right. [Refrain]

Lizzie De Armond was a prolific writer of children's hymns, recitations and exercises. When she was twelve years old her first poem was published in the Germantown, Pa. Telegraph, however, it was not until she was a widow with eight children to support that she started writing in earnest. She wrote articles, librettos, nature stories and other works, as well as hymns.
