God is in the shadow

Tell me, little harebell

Tune: GOD IS IN THE SHADOW
Published in 2 hymnals

Representative Text

1 Tell me, little Harebell,
Are you lonely here,
Blooming in the shadow,
On this rock so drear?
Clinging to the dark earth,
As if in mid-air,
With your sweet face to me,
Look strangely fair?

2 Are you never weary
Of this darksome mold,
Where no sunlight falleth,
Where 'tis bleak and cold?
Why you look so happy,
Sure I can not tell,
I would learn thy secret,
Pretty, bright Harebell?

3 Lady, said the wildflow'r,
Nodding low its head,
Tho' this spot seems dreary,
Tho' the sunlight's fled,
Know that I'm not lonely,
That I ne'er despair,
God is in the shadow,
God is everywhere.
