Our King

The busy, pleasant day

Published in 1 hymnal

Representative Text

1 The busy, pleasant day
Has softly passed away
On sunset wing;
And twilight shadows throng
To hear our even-song,
Its thankful strain prolong
To Christ, our King.

2 Unlike the kings of earth,
He was of lowly birth,
And humble name.
But all his life was spent
On thoughts of love intent;
Where'er his footsteps went,
A blessing came.

3 The poor, the sick, and old,
In hunger, want and cold,
He loved them all.
No words can e'er express
His heavenly tenderness;
He still can save and bless
The souls that call.

4 And he is with us now;
O let our spirits bow
His love to meet.
Our Brother and our Friend,
Whose kingdom has no end,
On whom our hearts depend
In trust complete.
