The happy bird that carols forth its praises

Tune: [The happy bird that carols forth its praises]
Published in 1 hymnal

Representative Text

1 The happy bird that carols forth its praises,
And warbles soft its merry woodland lay,
With grateful song its daily tribute raises,
And wanders freely all the summer day.
And at the morn's awaking,
The tuneful, gladsome lay,
By nature's chorus joyfully is chanted,
And, with the sun, salutes the welcome day.

2 And thus by day, amidst the sun's bright glowing,
Through leafy grove, along the vocal shore,
Are tones of mellow sweetness ever flowing
For human hearts, to cheer them evermore.
And thus they chant God's goodness,
'Till shades of evening fall;
And ever thus, with rays of cheerful daylight,
Our grateful hearts with love to Him shall call.
