Representative Text

1 Var Gud ei med os denne Tid,
Maa Israel nu sige,
Var Gud ei med os denne tid,
Forsagt vi maatte vige;
Vi som en fattig Haandfuld er
Og Manges Had og Vrede bær',
Som mod os stta og storme.

2 De er paa os i Hu saa vred;
Hvis Gud ei havde været,
De havde gjerne flugt os ned,
Og levende fortæret.
Som Floden svømmer over Land,
Og tager med sig Mand for Mand,
Saa vare vi omkomne.

3 Gud være Lov, som os ei gav
I deres Strikker fangne!
Som Fugl, hvem Snaren kommer af,
Saa ere vi undgangne;
Thi Snaren brast, og vi er fri;
Den Herre Gud han stod os bi,
Som haver Alt at raade.

In some hymnals, the editors noted that a hymn's author is unknown to them, and so this artificial "person" entry is used to reflect that fact.
