When God the earth and heaven

Representative Text

1 When God the earth and heaven had made,
When countless wonders are displayed,
He ceased, and all his labor stayed,
To keep the sabbath day.

Chorus:
O! sweet sweet day of sacred rest,
The day which God our maker blest,
Above all days I love it best,
The precious sabbath day.

2 It was our Father's love designed
This day a blessing to mankind,
And still his blessing we may find
With every sabbath day. [Chorus]

3 This day our precious Saviour rose
A victor over all our foes,
And fruits of victory still he shows
Each holy sabbath day. [Chorus]

4 If we through Jesus are forgiven,
We'll prize this day of all the seven,
And share, at length, the rest of heaven,
The endless sabbath day. [Chorus]
