Representative Text

1 When my work is finish’d, I’m trying to do,
For my dear Redeemer, tho’ humble I be;
Will the golden city arise to my view?
Will the gates of heaven be open to me?

Refrain:
Open tome,
Open to me,
Will the gates of heaven be open to me,
Will the golden city arise to my view,
Will the gates of heaven be open to me?

2 When my toilsome journey is ended below,
And my feet, so weary, forever are free,
Will the walls of jasper effulgently flow?
Will the gates of heaven be open to me? [Refrain]

3 When the tears of sorrow, so common to all,
And each scene of trouble completed shall be,
Will the voice of Jesus in tenderness call?
Will the gates of heaven be open to me? [Refrain]

4 Where no death nor sickness can evermore come,
And the loved, if holy, each other shall see,
Will I there be welcomes, no longer to roam?
Will the gates of heaven be open to me? [Refrain]
