Representative Text

1 When the heart’s sad with its burden of care,
When the dark clouds gather round ev’rywhere,
Still trust in Him the dear Father above;
Back of the clouds is the sunshine of love.

Refrain:
Back of the clouds is sunshine,
The sunshine of God’s love;
Flowing so freely from heaven
Is the sunshine of God’s love.

2 His way is best, yield yourself to His will,
Never a storm that His voice cannot still;
Tho’ but one step may be clear to your view,
Do not despair, He is thinking of you. [Refrain]

3 Under His care, tho’ the shadows may fall,
Lean on His word who is Lord over all;
Praise to His name, He’ll send light from above,
Back of the clouds is the sunshine of love. [Refrain]

Lizzie De Armond was a prolific writer of children's hymns, recitations and exercises. When she was twelve years old her first poem was published in the Germantown, Pa. Telegraph, however, it was not until she was a widow with eight children to support that she started writing in earnest. She wrote articles, librettos, nature stories and other works, as well as hymns.
