Representative Text

1 When upon life's rolling ocean,
Fraught with danger is the trip;
Do not fear 'mid the commotion,
Jesus never leaves the ship.

Chorus:
Put your trust in your commander,
Not a foot on board shall slip;
In yon port He'll safely land her,
Jesus never leaves the ship.

2 When the waves are dashing o'er her,
Do not fear tho' she may dip;
Better skies yet lie before her,
Jesus never leaves the ship. [Chorus]

3 O look up, why are ye fearful?
Why look down with trembling lip?
Dry your eyes now sad and tearful,
Jesus never leaves the ship. [Chorus]

4 Oft the vessel we must lighten,
From all worldly things must strip;
Then we'll find as the skies brighten,
Jesus never leaves the ship. [Chorus]

5 Sinner come and sail for Heaven,
Have no fears about the trip;
All on board to Him are given,
Jesus never leaves the ship. [Chorus]

Outside of the usual time spent in the public schools, Mr. Oatman received his education at Herbert's Academy, Princetown, N. J., and the New Jersey Collegiate Institute, Bordentown, N. J. At the age of nineteen he joined the M.E. Church, and a few years later he was granted a license to preach the Gospel, and still later he was regularly ordained by Bishop Merrill. However, Mr. Oatman only serves as a local preacher. For many years he was engaged with his father in the mercantile business at Lumberton… Go to person page >
