1 - ينبوعُ جودٍ من دمٍ زاكٍ جرى
من جسمِ فادينا الذي أحيا الورى
مُطهِّرٌ - مَنِ اغتسلْ
فيهِ اكتسى بِرَّ الحملْ

2 - يا حملاً قد مات عن جنسِ البشرْ
هذا الدمُ الثمينُ دائمُ الأثرْ
حتى يُنَجي بالسلامْ
بِيعَتَه على التمامْ

3 - لما رأيتُ سيلَ هاتيكَ الدما
بعين إيمانٍ به يُنـفى العمى
قد صار حبُّ من فدى
موضوعَ شُكري أبدا

4 - إذا غدا هذا اللسانُ الأبكمُ
في قبرِه أخرسَ لا يُكلِّمُ
تشدو بحمدٍ أعظمِ
نفسي لجودِ المنعِمِ

William Cowper (pronounced "Cooper"; b. Berkampstead, Hertfordshire, England, 1731; d. East Dereham, Norfolk, England, 1800) is regarded as one of the best early Romantic poets. To biographers he is also known as "mad Cowper." His literary talents produced some of the finest English hymn texts, but his chronic depression accounts for the somber tone of many of those texts. Educated to become an attorney, Cowper was called to the bar in 1754 but never practiced law. In 1763 he had the opportunity to become a clerk for the House of Lords, but the dread of the required public examination triggered his tendency to depression, and he attempted suicide. Nasif al-Yaziji (March 25, 1800 – February 8, 1871) was a Lebanese author at the times of the Ottoman Empire and father of Ibrahim al-Yaziji. He was one of the leading figures in the Nahda movement.
