Representative Text

1 You are launching your boat on the sea of life,
Will it bear your immortal soul?
If ‘tis guided or built by a human hand,
it will sink when the billows roll.
There’s a boat that is sent by the Father’s love,
It will carry you safely o’er;
It is guided by One who can never fail;
‘Tis the boat from the other shore.

Refrain:
Never fear when the tempests of life beat high,
And the wild waves around you roar;
You are safe if you sail with the Pilot true
In the boat from the other shore.

2 How the breakers are dashing the shattered wrecks
That are borne by the surging tide!
They are boats that were builded by unbelief,
Or by riches and earthly pride.
They were lost on the rocks when the storms arose,
Going down with their precious store;
But the boat that will weather the strongest gale
Is the boat from the other shore. [Refrain]

3 All the blessings of pardon and peace and love
Have been sent from the other side,
Where the angels, who always behold His face,
In the riches of grace abide.
We must pass on the waves but we need not fear,
For He promises o’er and o’er,
He will save ev’ry soul that will trust the Guide,
In the boat from the other shore. [Refrain]

4 All the friends who have crossed to the other side
Wait to greet us with “welcome home.”
Shall we launch on the raft of an earthly hope,
And go down ‘neath the ocean’s foam?
Take the boat that is sent by the Father’s love—
Dwell in safety forever more.
If you’re bound for the port of eternal peace,
Take the boat from the other shore. [Refrain]
