1 Cast thy bread upon the waters,
Thinking not ’tis thrown away;
God Himself will bid thee gather
From the field some future day.

2 Cast thy bread upon the waters,
Why shouldst thou still doubting stand?
Thou shalt gain abundant harvest,

3 Freely give of all thy substance,
O’er the field the Lord doth reign;
Cast thy bread, and toil with patience,
Thou shalt labor not in vain. [Refrain]
