629. O Saviour, We Have Proved It

1 O Saviour, we have proved it,
Thy promised gift of rest!
When worn and heavy-laden,
Thy love has cheered and blessed!
The wondrous gift amazes,—
That calm from heaven above,—
Our lips are full of praises,
Our hearts are full of love.

2 And now we long to tell it,
That precious word of Thine,
To ev’ry burdened spirit,
That longs for peace divine;
Oh come, with all your sadness,
And seek the Saviour’s breast!
He’ll fill your heart with gladness,
And bless your soul with rest.

3 O listen to His promise,
That promise, tried and true!
O trust the loving Saviour,
He sweetly calls to you.
This world is sad and dreary,
With sin and grief oppressed—
O come to Him, ye weary,
And He will give you rest.
