Text: | Before Jehovah’s awful throne |
Author: | I. Watts (1674-1748) |
Author: | J. Wesley (1703-1791) |
Tune: | OLD 100th |
Arranger: | J. Dowland (1563-1626) |
1 Before Jehovah's awful throne,
you nations, bow with sacred joy;
know that the Lord is God alone —
he can create, and he destroy.
2 His sovereign power, without our aid,
formed us and fashioned us of old;
and when like wandering sheep we strayed,
he brought us back into his fold.
3 We'll crowd your gates with thankful songs,
high as the heavens our voices raise;
and earth with her ten thousand tongue
shall fill your courts with sounding praise.
4 Wide as the world is your command,
vast as eternity your love;
firm as a rock your truth must stand,
when rolling years shall cease to move.
