996. As Mountains Round His People Rise

1 As mountains round His people rise,
Is God's protecting care;
My faith uplifts to them her eyes,
To see His presence there.
I shall not faint, I shall not fall,
If Thou, O Lord, upholdest me;
Thy presence, like a mountain wall,
My strength and sure defense shall be.

2 Tho' hostile tents my way surround,
I with the Lord abide;
And on life's consecrated ground
In His pavilion hide.
I shall not faint, I shall not fall,
If Thou, O Lord, upholdest me;
Thy presence, like a mountain wall,
My strength and sure defense shall be.

After second verse:
As mountains round His people rise,
Is God's protecting care;
My faith uplifts to them her eyes,
To see His presence there.
I shall not faint, I shall not fall,
If Thou, O Lord, upholdest me;
Thy presence, like a mountain wall,
My strength and sure defense shall be.
Thy presence, like a mountain wall.
My strength and sure defense shall be.
