83. My God, consider my distress

My God, consider my distress,
let mercy plead my cause;
I would not sin against your grace,
I’d not forget your laws.

Forbid, forbid the sharp reproach
which I so justly fear;
uphold my life, uphold my hopes,
nor let my shame appear.

Be now a surety, God, for me,
nor let some sin oppress;
God, help your waiting servant see
the shining of your face!

Look down upon my sorrows, Lord,
and show your grace the same
as you forever will afford
the ones who love your name.
