14. Witnessing Spirit

1 O come, Holy Spirit, and help us to sing
The praises eternal of Jesus our King;
Our hope is in thee, and on thee we rely;
Without thee we suffer, and languish, and die.

Refrain:
Spirit most holy,
Light of my heart,
Joy of the lowly,
Glory impart!

2 From deity’s bosom descend, gentle dove,
We ask for thy fulness, we covet thy love;
We grope in the darkness if trusting our might,
We shout in our gladness, when walking in light. [Refrain]

3 Now waiting, believing, we have the glad sign,—
Thy whispering presence is knowledge divine;
Perfumed by thy breathings we’re loaded with balm,
And Eden is gained thro’ the blood of the Lamb. [Refrain]

4 O Spirit eternal, forever abide,
Our Leader, Defender, Protector, and Guide;
Through all of life’s journey, whatever is given,
Direct us in safety to mansions in heaven. [Refrain]
