54. The Conquering Band

1 O Church of God arise! thy leader from the skies,
Bids thee in his own strength to battle go!
Who all the danger knows before thee surely goes,
And he will vict’ry give o’er every foe.

Refrain:
“Go ye!” ‘tis God’s command!
“Go ye!” “possess the land!”
To the souls that need will the Spirit lead,
“Go” conq’ring and trusting band.

2 In every sin-dark land, the Saviour’s last command,
Bids thee the gospel of the cross proclaim!
While any soul remains in superstition’s chains,
Go, bear it, freedom in his blessed Name. [Refrain]

3 Wherever man is found, wherever Truth is bound,
Go ye and preach the gospel of his love;
As messengers of light, go forth and conquer night,
And win a crown of joy with him above. [Refrain]
