1 I waited on the Lord, resigned,
Who graciously to me inclined,
And heard my fervent cry:
He raised me from the horrid pit,
The miry clay, and set my feet
Firm on the rock on high.

2 New songs of praise my tongue employ;
Many shall see with fear and joy,
And in the Lord confide.
Blest is the man who trust the Lord,
Nor by the false or proud is awed,
Nor such as turn aside.

3 Many, O Lord, Thy wonders are,
And gracious purposes, that far
Transcend all human thought;
Vain are all efforts to declare
The mercies that Thy people share,
The wonders Thou hast wrought.
