39. Why Will You Turn Him Away?

1 Wand’ring afar from the Saviour’s side,
Into a world of sin and shame;
Turning away the Crucified—
Spurning the love with which He came!

Refrain:
O, wanderer, weary and lost,
Why will you turn Him away?
Jesus who saves you at infinite cost—
Will you not take Him today?

2 Turning away from the heav’nly light,
Wandering on in paths of sin—
Choosing to dwell in eternal night—
Mocking the Spirit’s voice within! [Refrain]

3 Courting the wrath of a righteous God—
Hastening to the judgment morn,
Feeling no shame that the sinner’s rod
Fell on the Saviour’s head forlorn! [Refrain]
