64. O Precious Little Word

1 ‘Tis but a simple little word; I’ve heard it o’er and o’er;
But as I listen to its chime, I love it still the more;
It breathes an invitation, and a welcome large and free;
I wish that I could tell you what that word has done for me.

Come, come, come; O precious little word!
Come, come, come, my soul is sweetly stirred;
It brought me to my Savior; I found salvation free;
And that is what that little word has done for me.

2 It was the voice of Jesus that was speaking to my heart,
Persuading me to seek him, and from every sin depart;
He told me he would give me rest, my elder brother be;
So I believed, and came to him, whose blood has ransomed me. [Refrain]

3 Oh, have you heard this little word, resounding in your soul?
Oh, will you not upon the Lord, your heavy burden roll?
He longs to clasp you in his arms, and bid the shadows flee;
Oh, come, and then you’ll really know what coming means to me. [Refrain]

4 ‘Tis but a simple little word, but oh, it means so much!
The wonder of his saving pow’r, the healing of his touch;
And when we sing redeeming love, beside the crystal sea,
