The Glenn C. and Helen Wilcox Collection is an archive of approximately 5,000 hymnals of which approximately one-fifth are processed and cataloged. The collection contains a number of nineteenth-century tunebooks, shape-note hymnals, a large number of Lowell Mason publications, a wide array of Sunday school/temperance materials, various early colonial materials such as Isaac Watts publications, Bay Psalm Books (later editions), Cotton Mather psalm translations, etc. The Wilcox Collection is also complemented by the T. W. Lofton Collection of Shape Note materials and the John L. Lair Research Collection that contains various hymnals including shape note publications. The collection complements musical holdings of the University of Kentucky’s Special Collections and Archives located in the M. I. King Library. The collection is a closed-stacks archive that is available for use within the library. Date range: 18th–20th c.
