Birth Year: 1915

Carlson, Joseph D. Born on April 7, 1915, Minneapolis, Minnesota, son of Sever and Agusta Carlson. Before conversion, conducted a dance orchestra, then became a C&MA pastor and evangelist, traveling extensively in the United States and Canada, speaker at conventions and youth gatherings. Former director of Toronto Youth for Christ. Author of popular chorus (1939) "If You Want Joy, Real Joy, Wonderful Joy," written soon after conversion as a personal testimony, for which verses have been supplied for Hymns of the Christian Life, 1978 edition. Primarily interested in evangelism and missions, made annual visits to mission fields. Served as Executive Director of International Christian Ministries and of the Mission to Children, Inc. Conducted daily radio ministry. Has written a number of songs and choruses as:
