Cuninggim, Maud Merrimon (Raleigh, North Carolina, March 7, 1874--May 2, 1965, Knoxville, Tennessee). Mrs. Jesse L. Cuninggim, whose husband was for many years President of Scarritt Bible and Training School, Nashville, Tennessee, was born at Raleigh, North Carolina. The daughter of Augusts Merrimon, United State Senator from North Carolina, 1893-1899, and later Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of his state until his death, she began writing verse while ministering to her father's needs during his last illness. She developed an unusual facility in writing occasional poems, many of which appeared in various religious journals. Her son, Merrimon, was the dean of Perkins School of Theology, Southern Methodist University, Dallas, Texas.
