Di Ca­pua stu­died mu­sic at the Con­ser­va­to­rio di Mu­si­ca San Pi­e­tro a Ma­jel­la in Na­ples. He start­ed com­pos­ing his most fa­mous song, "O So­le Mio" (co-writ­ten with Ital­i­an po­et Gi­o­van­ni Ca­pur­ro), while on a trip to Odes­sa, Rus­sia (now in the Ukraine).
