Jones, Violet Isabel. (Alves, Scotland, April 24, 1920-- ). Presbyterian. M.A., Dip. in Ed., Edinburgh University; Ph.D., University of Wales. Interpreter with the Allied Control Commission for Germany, 1944-1947; lecturer in German, University of Wales, 1947-1966; professor of German, University of Regina (Saskatchewan), 1966-?. While teaching the entire range of German language and literature, she preferred to publish studies of 18th-century writing, and of comparisons between German and Scottish balladry. A long period of illness in the 1970s thus found her with an ideal background for writing the many hymns which she produced before her health improved.
