James Edward Marsh (Jr.) was the son of songwriter J.E. Marsh (1889-1970). Brought up in a musical family, he published his first song at age 11, contributing a musical setting to the lyric "We are saved to serve" written by Adger M. Pace in the 1935 James D. Vaughan publication Sunrise in Glory.
