Lavertte McHan was born March 7, 1874, in Hanceville, Alabama, but was raised in Brownwood, Texas. In 1895 he attended a music normal in Comanche, Texas taught by Prof. Showalter. His most famous song, "Hide You in the Blood of Jesus," was first published in The Gospel Garner from The Trio Music Company in Waco, Texas, in 1903. His songs were also published by the Showalter Company, the Songland Company of Dallas, and the Kyger Music Company of Waco. He was a minister in the Baptist church for many years. Lavertte McHan died February 18, 1951.
