Vine, Alfred H., son of J. Vine, Wesleyan minister, was born at Nottingham in 1845, educated at King Edward's School, Birmingham, and King's College, London, and entered the Wesleyan ministry in 1867. He has published The Doom of Saul, 1895; Songs of the Heart 1905, and Songs of Living Things, 1897. Of his hymns the following are in common use:—
1. O Breath of God, breathe on us now . [Whitsuntide]
2. O Great Lord Christ,my Saviour. [The Divine Call]
3. Saviour, Thy clear eyes behold. [Omniscience of Christ]
Of these Nos. 1 and 2 are from his The Doom of Saul, 1895; and No. 3 was written for the Wesleyan Young People's Hymnal, 1896.
