Because I Know the Lord

Representative Text

1 Because I know the Lord
My Shepherd is, desiring
To guide me with His word
In righteous paths, not tiring,
I trust in Him alone
Like an obedient child,
Or like a shepherd's lamb,
Humble and meek and mild.

2 He leads to pastures green
To brooklets, gently flowing.
My soul, content, serene,
My love on Him bestowing,
Can rest in sweet repose,
Sustained by words of life,
With heart content, composed,
Away from care and strife.

3 When I must undergo
Despair and grief and sorrow,
I fear no evil blow,
No peril on the morrow.
Thy rod and staff from wrong
Will keep me constantly;
If but my faith is strong,
Then I can follow Thee.

4 A table is prepared
For my soul's restoration,
And thus Thou hast declared
Thy love for Thy creation.
No enemy can steal
The wealth Thy comforts give,
The inner peace I feel
While I in Thee do live.

5 Praise, glory, gratitude,
To Thee, O Lord, be given
For Thy solicitude,
For grace sent us from heaven.
O, Shepherd lead Thou me
To heav'nly realms on high
Where I will ever Thee
Joyfully glorify.
