1 Mem’ry paints a picture
Very dear to me;
In the twilight seated
There at mother’s knee,
Sweetly she is humming
Notes almost divine:
“My Jesus, I love Thee,
I know Thou art mine.”
2 Often o’er life’s pathway
Hangs a cloud of night,
But my mother’s Savior
Makes the darkness bright,
As I hear her singing,
Joy in ev’ry line:
“My Jesus, I love Thee,
I know Thou art mine.”
3 Often tho’ I’ve wandered,
Till sin held me bound,
I in mother’s message
Sweet relief have found;
To my mother’s Savior
I my all resign:
“My Jesus, I love Thee,
I know Thou art mine.”
4 Something in the message
Always finds my heart,
Often as I hear it,
Will the teardrops start;
Sweet is benediction—
Low my head I bow:
“If ever I love Thee,
My Jesus, ‘tis now.”
