CANTON (Mason)

This tune first appeared in The Choir, or Union Collection of Church Music (1832) and in other collections by Lowell Mason. It was usually uncredited in Mason's own collections, but it was attributed to him in The Harmonist (1840) of the Methodist Episcopal Church, and it was credited to him by his grandson, Henry L. Mason, in Hymn-Tunes of Lowell Mason (1944).
