Alfred Beer was born in Great Barr, Birmingham (England), in 1874. He studied piano and was the son of a Methodist minister. One of his headmasters encouraged him to compose tunes to Methodist hymns, five of these appear in the 1933 Methodist Hymn Book Dianne Shapiro from Dictionary of Composers for the Church in Great Britain and Ireland bu Maggie Humphreys and Robert Evans (Mansell, London: 1997) Go to person page >
