Noel Dexter was born on December 21, 1938 and grew up in Port Antonio, Portland, Jamaica. He studied ethnomusicology and church music at the University of West Indies, in the United Kingdom and in the United States. He founded and led the Kingston Singers as well as other theatrical productions. For 25 years he was director of music at the University of West Indies, Mona, While there he lead the University Singers, until 2012, when he retired.
