The key of a hymn is determined by the number of sharps and flats of that hymn.
Guidelines
- Major keys should use a capital letter and minor keys should use a lowercase letter.
- Spell out the words "Flat" and "Sharp" rather than abbreviating with "#" and "b".
- Examples include "B Flat Major" and "c sharp minor"
- The web interface has a handy tool to figure out the key.
- If the hymn is in two keys, insert a new row and put the second key on this second row.
- Some keys are modal. If you know the key is modal, indicate this, for example, “d modal”
