147. O Light that's Ever Bright

1 O light that's ever bright
The whole world penetrating
And reaching out to all
Who for this light are waiting.
Let Thy beams touch my heart
And through my being flow.
All darkness will depart
Through Thy eternal glow.

2 My God, Thou art that light--
The light that's ever burning,
That brings the joy and peace
For which my soul is yearning.
Although I often fall
Thy light will give me strength
And like a fiery beam
Directs my course at length.

3 Like Moses let me live
Forsake the worldly pleasures.
Give me a heart that's pure
And longs for heaven's treasures.
My shoes of earthly clay
In haste I cast aside
And follow in Thy steps.
Be Thou my strength and guide.

4 Oh, let me gain new life
From Thy eternal power.
Then with Thy help I might
Bring my frail faith to flower;
So that my heart and soul
Unfettered are, and free
To soar to heaven's heights
And bring me close to Thee.

5 Yea, govern Thou my life
And let my deeds reflect it.
Let all my efforts be
By Thine own hand directed.
My mouth Thy praises sings.
Thy light shows me the way
Until that day arrives
When with Thee I can stay.
