38. Rejoice Ye Heavens!

1 Rejoice ye Heavens, Ye angels now lift up thy singing!
Praise to the Savior, in honor your glad voices ringing!
See without fear,
God who is gracious draws near,
Turns to the lost who are sinning.

2 Rejoice ye Heavens, sing praises ye ends of creation!
God and the sinner are friends, and man finds his salvation!
Gladness and peace
Begin and never shall cease.
Sing, shepherds, in adoration.

3 Behold this marvel that God on high bends down in healing!
Behold this love which now as love itself is revealing!
God enters in
Born as a child, lifting sin.
In silence and praise are kneeling.

4 God is incarnate among us, are we comprehending?
Here is the portal now open to life without ending.
All here below
Who to the Father would go
Must first the Child be befriending.

5 Hast Thou then willed, my God, me Thy child thus to remember?
Thyself, Thy loving heart, I pray Thee now to me render.
Should not my mind
Cause for rejoicing now find,
And in submission surrender?

6 King, born a child to redeem us in loving endeavor,
To Thee, who loved us, I give my love also forever.
Thou God alone
Do I choose now for my own.
My heart from sin I will sever.

7 Sweet Lord and Savior, be born to me and never leave me.
Come, my Immanuel, may parting never more grieve me.
O Thou above,
Life without end in Thy love
Is found by all who believe Thee.

8 Jesus, Thou friend of man, to Thee my love I am bringing.
One heart, one soul for Thee, Thy will obedience winning.
I pray to be
Reborn a child unto Thee.
To Thee alone I am clinging.
