56. Of God's great love I sing today

1 Of God's great love I sing today
And of His boundless grace,
His counsel comes to those who pray
In many wondrous ways.

2 When deep in sorrow I am bent
And sins are pressing me,
A joyous vision He will lend
To set my spirit free.

3 God told His servant Abraham:
Go forth from out thy land.
Avoid the shame of sin and wrong,
And take your faith in hand.

4 So always humbly follow God,
Who sets for you life's aim.
Let sinless be the path you trod;
If need be, suffer shame.

5 He is, indeed, the bread of life,
For which all mankind cries,
He is our help in time of strife
And leads to Paradise.

6 'Tis only those who seek to be
A child in heart once more
That He from sin and shame will free
And lead to Heaven's shore.

7 Each day I gain new visions of
how He directs us all
yet rarely do we feel His touch
Nor hear His footsteps fall.

8 The God of all--above, below,
Who makes both dark and light--
Though by His will to death we go,
Dawn rises from death's night.

9 Oft earthly friendships go astray,
But His is ever true.
And when I fail, He gently guides
To give me chances new.

10 Since Thou forgavest me, and still
Forgivest every day,
My love for Thee my heart doth fill,
Thy love is mine for aye.

11 Our God will finish and fulfill
That which He chose to start.
I pray that Thou wilt grace instill
Within my humble heart.
