1 Awaken Thou my soul,
O Jacob's God and Lord,
Give strength to make me whole
For I believe Thy word.
Refrain, O heart, from sin,
From earthly pleasures flee;
Else everything is lost
And grace thou'll never see.
2 Arise through Jesus Christ
Who, when thou wast near death,
Hath saved thee from thy sins
Which to disgrace had led.
Oh, show thy strength, my soul,
Which thou through Christ attained,
And do not waver when
This chalice must be drained.
3 My people, be alert,
Prepare to meet my call.
I, the God Israel,
Am still thy one and all;
And that long promised land
Can still thy portion be,
For Jesus by His death
Hath ransomed it for thee.
4 God, who is good and true,
Knows where the way will lead.
If we obey His voice,
His counsel always heed,
His light will show the path
On which we all must go.
He knows our cares and pain;
He measures all our woe.
5 Canst thou accept this call,
My people, then God will
Stay ever at thy side,
Protect and lead thee still;
But thou must also be
Faithful to Him alone,
Give Him thy heart and soul
Forever as His own.
