1 In the sec­ret of His pre­sence!
Hast thou found this blest re­treat,
Hid away from care­less seek­ers,
And from hur­ry­ing, rest­less feet?
Has thou sought and yet hast found not?
Art thou sad and hea­vy-eyed?
Dost thou whis­per: Oth­ers find Him,
Yet my plead­ings are de­nied?

Blest rock of sal­va­tion!
Once riv­en for me,
Safely hid in Thy bo­som,
I’m rest­ing, yes rest­ing in Thee.

2 Listen, dear one, Christ is yearn­ing—
With an un­told stress of need—
Straight in­to His hal­lowed pre­sence
Every seek­ing heart to lead.
Cease thy hur­ry­ing and thy strugg­ling:
Cast thy­self prone at His feet;
Yield thy life, thy will, thy all things
To His guid­ance full, com­plete. [Refrain]

3 Do not quest­ion of the mor­row,
Nor the path where He may choose
In His ten­der love to lead thee;
All our plan­nings we must lose
If we would ab­ide each mo­ment
In His pre­sence rest­ful, calm,
Finding in His love en­fold­ed,
For each hurt a heal­ing balm. [Refrain]

4 In the sec­ret of His pre­sence,
Seeing but His bless­ed face,
Thou, e’en thou, tho’ weak and help­less—
Just a sin­ner saved by grace—
Thou canst go and tell the lost ones
Of the Sav­ior thou hast found,
Till, in soil now parched and bar­ren,
Healing wa­ters may ab­ound. [Refrain]
