12318. What The Old World Needs

1 There are many hearts aching
’Neath loads that they bear,
And all dreary their days are and long;
But the love of a friend
Would relieve toil and care,
And fill life with a joyous new song.

Refrain:
What the old world needs is love,
Like the Christ brought from above,
Love that reaches out, around,
Where the weary ones are found;
What the world needs is love.

2 There are souls that are burdened
’Neath poverty’s sting,
Who consider each man as his foe;
They need friendship and kindness
To cause them to sing,
And the love of a Savior to know. [Refrain]

3 There are those who might buy
Any rich thing of earth,
But their hearts are now aching and cold;
They are wasting their time
Seeking pleasure and mirth,
While true love would bring gladness untold. [Refrain]

4 There are many tonight
That are wounded by sin,
And they think no one cares Tor their pain;
They are perishing now,
Whom the Christ died to win,
And they’re longing for love all in vain. [Refrain]
