12682. When The Clouds Were Dark

1 When the clouds were dark above me,
And I heard the billows roll,
How the loving voice of Jesus
Whispered comfort to my soul!

Refrain:
Onward, then, I’ll move in triumph,
Till I reach the other shore,
There to gather with the faithful
When the storms of life are o’er.

2 When the fiercest storms were raging,
And I found no earthly rest,
Then my weary head He pillowed
On His kind and faithful breast. [Refrain]

3 Let me hear Thy voice, my Savior,
While I tread the vale of life;
Let me hear its tones, so gentle,
’Mid the conflict and the strife. [Refrain]

4 Let my spirit gladly follow
Where Thou leadest day by day;
When Thou callest, blessed Savior,
Let me never answer, "Nay." [Refrain]
