LXXI. The frozen Heart lamented

1 When shall my frozen heart revive?
When shall my soul begin to live?
Fetter'd with sin, oppress'd with death!
I pant, yet hopeless pant for breath.

2 Yet against hope, I fain would hope,
O that the Lord would raise me up;
Wou'd all my unbelief destroy,
And let me taste his people's joy.

3 Come breath of life, inspire my soul,
On me let streams of mercy roll;
I know a tender glance from thee,
Can set my burthen'd spirit free.

4 Lord kindly reach this heart of mine,
I'd pant to be entirely thine;
To have thy spirit rule in me,
And bring me into liberty.
