72. They Built the Church

1 They built the church that is our home
with Jesus Christ, the cornerstone,
a strong foundation for the past,
but in these days, will this church last?
Alleluia!

2 Life’s only constant now is change,
our way is hard, and times are strange,
yet sing, rejoice, let prayers be said!
The church lives on with Christ as head!
Alleluia!

3 The church lives on, as we proclaim
the love of God in Christ who came
to dwell with us, show us the way
to walk as faithful friends today.
Alleluia!

4 The church lives on, as we are fed
by Christ, the life-sustaining Bread,
and share the cup of blessed grace
with others gathered in this place.
Alleluia!

5 The church lives on, to us a trust
from Christ, to shape a world more just,
to dry the tears of those who cry,
and feed the hungry, lest they die.
Alleluia!

6 The church lives on, transcending time,
connecting us with saints divine,
embracing all who come to own
Christ as their head and cornerstone.
Alleluia!
